Diamond Gems Weekly - January 6, 2025
So, how’s 2025 going for you? So far so good if you ask me…
As we approach “Quitter’s Day” – that’s the second Friday of the year, which is considered the most likely deadline for people to have abandoned their New Year’s resolutions – I’m happy to report that I have already chalked off two major commitments I made to myself.
I’ll reveal what those were another time… I admit they’ve been in the works for a while, and I purposefully stacked them in the first two weeks to keep my goals realistic. So maybe I shouldn’t get too carried away with my self-congratulations. I guess I just want you to know I’m busy with stuff.
I have also been thinking about what we in the diamond industry can expect in 2025. And I’ve approached my analysis in two stages. The first step is to understand how we arrived at this point, to give context about what we’re dealing with. The next step will be to use that background as a basis from which to make a few predictions.
My latest video presents part 1 of my analysis 2025 Expectations: How We Got Here?
Among my resolutions is a commitment to stretch my creative boundaries. I’m so honored to have had the opportunity to immediately put that to the test by collaborating with artist and jewelry designer Reena Ahluwalia on the Diamond Trails collective.
The project was unveiled over the weekend at the IIJS Signature show in Mumbai (Jan 4 to 7). It saw me and four other writers – Grant Mobley, Sonia Esther Soltani, Shanoo Bijlani, and Reena herself – compose a 350-word piece of flash fiction related to natural diamonds, and Reena paint a visual representation of each story.
Frankly, the results blew me away, and I plan to write a full blog post about it soon. Each work of art, along with its narrative, is available for sale, with the proceeds going to charity.
Check out the project at the link below. I’m truly proud to be part of this initiative.
And that’s all I have for you this week. I know, it all feels a little egocentric, but we haven’t had much diamond market news yet in 2025… I guess we’ll give the industry a grace period until the second Friday of January to wow us with its New Year’s pronouncements.
